16|Sep|2011 2You need to get an exterminator in, because if the nest isn’t found, they will just continue to grow. They can be very destructive to the house and/or garage.

But if you actually have “sugar” ants or the little black ones, than there are many easy ways and safe non-toxic remedies for the home and pets. The best one for indoors is “Pine-sol” dilluted in a spray bottle 60/40(pine-sol/water), it kills on contact, and if you spray regularly the perimeter of a room or rooms, they will NOT come near the stuff. For some reason they absolutely do not like pine oil! I’ve found that it has to be “pine-sol” brand, due to all the others dont contain real pine oil and seem to do nothing to them! good luck

16|Sep|2011 6The best thing to do is to find the colony, they will usually be inside rotting lumber, inside wood piles, sheds etc. Once you find the nest, there are several things you can do.
Boiling water works well. Just pour boiling water onto the area where you think the nest is located, do this for several days ina row and it should do quite a bit of damage.
Oranges, go tot he grocery store and buy a half dozen oranges. Dont peel them, and just toss them into the blender. really puree the things. Add some orange juice, to make a liquid, then dump this right onto the colony. Oils in the peels of oranges are really toxic to ants.
Boric acid is the best cure by far. Buy RAID ANT KILLER form any hardware store, it is sold in a tiny red bottle. Mix this pison with honey, or Jam, to make it seem very attractive to the ants, then set it somewhere where they have easy access to it, they take it to the colony and kills them all including the queen. I know this works, because I have used it myself.
The best cure to the problem is still prevention, you have to remove all wood and lumber products from off the ground, if they get wet, they attract the ants, remove any dead trees, or telephone poles (speak to the city). Well, I hope that helps, ti should, Like I said, it worked miracles for me, so it should help you too! Good Luck!
